
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday filed two cases against the former deputy press secretary of the former prime minister, Ashraful Alam Khokon, and his wife, Rezwana Noor, on charges of amassing assets worth Tk 17.03 crore beyond known sources of income.
ACC director general (prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain at a press briefing said that the ACC filed the case against Khokon on charges of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 13.34 crore.
He also said that Khokon bought a house on the Ira road at Bellmore in New York in the United States through laundering his illegal wealth from Bangladesh.
Besides, Khokon allegedly conducted suspicious transactions worth Tk 1.34 crore through three bank accounts in his name.
Rezwana was accused of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 3.69 crore and conducting suspicious transactions worth Tk 6.12 crore through three bank accounts, said the case statement.
The ACC, meanwhile, filed a case against Tomal Mansur, son of former health minister Mohammad Nasim, on charges of amassing illegal wealth including 14 apartments in the United States.
ACC director general Md Akhtar Hossain at a press briefing said that the commission during its inquiry found information about 14 apartments worth Tk 63 crore of Tomal in New York in the USA.
Tomal Mansur bought 12 apartments worth Tk 38.19 crore in the Aftab Sky view tower on the Jamaica street in New York.
He also bought an apartment worth Tk 15.09 crore in the Jamaica neighbourhood in New York while Tomal bought another apartment worth Tk 10.65 crore in Queens block in the Jamaica neighbourhood in New York.
According to the case statement, Tomal Mansur amassed illegal assets worth Tk 67.63 crore in Bangaldesh and the USA. Of the assets, he amassed wealth worth Tk 3.39 crore in Bangladesh and Tk 63.93 crore in the USA.
The ACC also found suspicious transactions of Tk 3.37 crore in his three bank accounts, said the case statement.
