A case has been filed over a procession by the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the Awami League, at the Chatteshwari intersection in Chattogram city.

Sub-inspector Enamul Haque filed the case with the Chawkbazar police station in the city by at around 10:30pm on Wednesday.


The case named 76 leaders and activists of the BCL, Juba League, Swechchhasebak League and Awami League, including the Chattogram city AL president Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury.

Additionally, 40 to 50 unidentified individuals have also been accused in the case with the charge ‘broadcasting conspiratorial information against the government, causing damage to the state and financing anti-state activities’.

According to the case statement, SI Enamul Haque reported that while he stationed at Golpahar intersection on March 25 at around 6:10pm, he received information that the BCL leaders and activists along with members of AL and its affiliated organisations were marching with sticks and bricks at Chatteshwari intersection, chanting anti-government slogans with alleged intent to create unrest.

After the police members arrived at the scene at around 6:15pm, the participants of the procession fled through alleyways.

The police later recovered 10 wooden sticks and 18 broken brick pieces at the location.

Chawkbazar police station officer-in-charge Md Zahedul Kabir said that following the procession by the banned BCL on Tuesday, the police on Wednesday filed a case against 76 named and 40 to 50 unnamed people. 

‘We have already arrested approximately 10 individuals, and operations are ongoing to detain the rest,’ added the OC.
