
Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 45,900 yaba pills in the Dhaka鈥檚 Jatrabari area on Thursday.
The Dhanmondi zonal team of the detective branch-Ramna division carried out a special operation based on intelligence reports regarding drug traffickers heading towards Rayerbag under the Jatrabari police station, concealing yaba pills in buses, said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
A checkpoint was set up on the south side of the foot overbridge in the Rayerbag area on the Dhaka-Chittagong road in the morning, leading to the arrest of the trio and the recovery of the drugs from the bus.
The estimated value of the recovered yaba tablets was Tk 92.4 lakh, Talebur added.
During primary interrogation, the suspects confessed to sourcing yaba tablets from Cox鈥檚 Bazar and distributing them to various drug dealers in Dhaka and its surrounding areas.
A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Jatrabari police station, and legal proceedings were underway against the arrested.
