The authorities of the Rajshahi City Corporation have decided to dismiss a total of 120 employees from their jobs.

The employees were appointed during the tenure of former city corporation mayor and Awami League presidium member AHM Khairuzzaman Liton,


An office order, signed by RCC acting secretary Taimur Rahman on Thursday, stated that these 120 employees were appointed on a daily basis to fifteen departments opened outside the authorised organisational structure during the former mayor’s tenure were not needed any more.

The office order also shows that 45 of the temporary employees of the disbanded fifteen departments and branches have been reassigned by the authorities to different authorised branches and departments of the city corporation.

According to the office order, the termination of the 120 temporary employees will be effective from April 01.

Earlier, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5, the RCC authorities took initiatives to shut activities of its 15 sections opened during the tenure of AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, citing them ‘unnecessary’.

Later in November 2024, the authorities then dismissed 161 temporary employees from the 15 sections.
