¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· journalist Rafia Tamanna and her brother were attacked after they protested against some youths who were stalking her near their house in the capital’s Rampura area on Wednesday.
Rafia told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the incident occurred at about 7:00pm while she was passing by a shop.
‘Three to four youths came out from the shop, stalked and stood beside me. When my brother protested against them, they attacked him and started beating him,’ she said.
She was also attacked and beaten up by the group when she tried to save her brother from them, Rafia said.
‘Local people in the area just enjoyed the incident like audience and no one came forward to save us. The perpetrators even called more people to create a mob,’ she said.
Traumatised Rafia and her brother left the scene to save their lives, said Rafia.
‘Am I not safe in my own area,’ Rafia posed a question.
Later, the police were informed and she was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, she said, adding that she would file a complaint regarding the incident after her treatment.
Rampura police station investigation inspector Md Mashiul Alam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that two teams from the police station went to the spot.
‘One team is evaluating the CCTV footages of the incident while another team is assisting the victim. Necessary action will be taken upon receiving a complaint,’ he said.
