At least six people, including a father and his two minor daughters, were killed and 22 others were injured in road accidents across the country on Thursday.

Of the victims, three were killed in Jashore, two in Sirajganj and one in Chattogram.


¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jashore reported that a father and his two daughters were killed and two more were injured when a bus ran over a motorcycle from behind at Pulerhat under Kotwali police station in Jashore at around 5:00pm on Thursday.

The deceased are Rubel Hossain, 32, his daughters Oishi, 10 and Tayeba, 4, from Mujgunni in Khulna city.

Rubel’s wife Jesmin, 28, and pedestrian Osman Goni, 19 were the injured ones.

The incident took place when Rubel was returning to his residence from Jashore with his family on the motorcycle.

Following the collision the trio died on the spot and the mother got injuried.

The pedestrian was wounded as the bus driver tried to flee the spot with the vehicle, said locals and the police.

Agitated locals torched the bus soon after the incident.

Confirming the incident, Kotwali police station inspector Kazi Babul said that the police brought the situation under control after the incident.

In Sirajganj, two people were killed and four more were injured when an oil-laden tank lorry hit head-on a compressed natural gas-run auto-rickshaw on the Pabna-Bogura highway under Ullapara upazila at around 3:30pm.

All the victims were passengers and driver of the auto-rickshaw, said police.

The deceased are Shariful Islam, 35, the auto-rickshaw driver and son of Abdul Aziz from Alokdia village under Salanga thana in Sirajganj and Abdul Momin, son of Anowar Hossain from Dubdanga village under the Ullapara upazila.

Hatikumrul highway police officer-in-charge Abdur Rouf said that the auto-rickshaw was heading towards Ullapara with passengers from Hatikumrul.

When the auto-rickshaw reached the Purba Deldua Bridge area, the tank lorry hit it side and fled the scene.

The auto-rickshaw was severely damaged following the collision.

Locals rushed five injured auto-rickshaw passengers and the drivers to the Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared the two dead.

The highway police officer said that they had seized the tank lorry, but the driver managed to flee, the police officer said, adding that no case has been filed yet.

In Chattogram, a person was killed and six more were injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Horihor-Sarashia road under Podua union at Rangunia upazila.

The deceased is Shadhon Barua, 65.

Dakkhin Rangunia police officer-in-charge ATM Shifatul Mazdar said that the motorcycle was going to Razarhat area from Sarashia area at around 10:00am when it collided with the auto-rickshaw from the opposite side.

Both vehicles veered off the road following the clash.

The victims were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while Shadhon succumbed to his injuries on the way.

No case was filed yet, the police added. 

In Bandarban, 10 tourists were injured when a bus hit a roadside tree in the Mirinja area under Lama upazila at around 10:30am.

Lama police officer-in-charge Md Tofazzal Hossain said that family members of a family were on their way to Lama from Lohagara area in Chattogram on an Eagle Paribahan bus for celebrating the Eid vacation.

When the bus reached Mirinja area suddenly the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle hit a roadside big tree.

‘The passengers narrowly escaped a big accident as the bus did not fall into the roadside ditch,’ said the police officer.

Among the 10 injured four severely injured were taken to the CMCH while others were released after receiving primary treatments, he said, adding that the victims did not want to file any case. 

Meanwhile, United News of Bangladesh reported that a man and his nephew died on the spot when a car hit a motorbike on the Jashore-Benapole highway in Sarsha upazila in Jashore on Wednesday night at around 11:00pm.

The deceased are Zahid Hossain, 22, son of Billal Hossain and Russel Hossain, 20, son of Khalilur Rahman of Brittibaripota village in the upazila.

Confirming the accident, Sharsha police officer-in-charge Rabiul Islam said that a case was filed.
