A lawyer was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Moulvibazar town Sunday night.

The victim Sujon Mia, 38, son of Md Zahirul Islam of East Hilalpur village in Moulvibazar town, was a legal practitioner at the Moulvibazar district judge court.


The incident took place at about 11:30pm near the Fuchka food court in front of the municipal park when a group of 5–6 attackers stabbed Sujon with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.

According to witnesses, Sujon was standing near the food stall when the attackers approached and stabbed him before fleeing. The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined.

Locals rushed Sujon to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

SAM Habibullah, a fellow lawyer and assistant public prosecutor, said that Sujon and he received Bar Council licenses together.

He added that the Moulvibazar district judge court would observe a work abstention on Tuesday in protest, and a human chain would also be formed in front of the court premises demanding justice.

Minhajur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Moulvibazar Sadar model police station, said that a preliminary report was prepared and the body was sent for autopsy.

‘An investigation is underway, and legal action will follow after identifying those involved,’ he added.
