
Bangladesh Navy on Tuesday detained 214 Rohingyas travelling to Malaysia illegally by a fishing boat in the Bay of Bengal.
The detained Rohingyas comprise 118 males, 68 females and 28 children, said a press release of the Inter-Services Public Relation Directorate issued later in the evening.
The ISPR said that Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Durjoy found the fishing boat MV Kulsum鈥檚 movement suspicious 44 nautical miles south-west from St Martins Island in Cox鈥檚 Bazar and intercepted it.
The boat started its journey for Malaysia from the Shaplapur area under Taknaf upazila at about 2:00am on Tuesday, said the ISPR, adding that they had handed over the seized boat and detained Rohingyas to Bangladesh Coast Guard.
