The Directorate of Madrassah Education under the education ministry on Wednesday ordered all madrassahs under it to celebrate Chaitra Sangkranti and Pahela Baishakh.

The directive was given to all madrassahs concerned to celebrate the days in a festive atmosphere under their own management.


By a recent decision taken in an inter-ministerial meeting all educational institutions from primary to tertiary levels have been instructed to celebrate the days in festivities.

People celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali new year, across the country on April 14 each year in festivities in tune with Bengal鈥檚 centuries-old cultural heritage.聽 On April 13, people also celebrate the last day of Chaitra, the last day of the Bengali year.

Between April 12 and 14, different national minorities living in Bangladesh鈥檚 hill districts of Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban celebrate Baisabi festival.

The Directorate of Madrassah Education on Wednesday issued an order addressing the principals of the Alia madrassahs, principals and superintendents of the non-government madrassahs and heads of the ibtedayi madrassahs under it to observe Chaitra Sangkranti, Bengali new year and New Year festival of Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Garo and other communities in a festive atmosphere under their own management.

On March 23 this year, the cultural affairs ministry held the inter-ministerial meeting on peaceful celebration of Bengali new year at the secretariat, chaired by cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, where decision was taken to celebrate the day in all educational institutions along with other institutions.

As per the meeting minutes, the ministries of education and the primary and mass education were asked to implement the decision.

On April 7, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the education ministry ordered all educational institutions under it to celebrate Bengali new year on April 14.
