Local residents formed a human chain on Sunday, demanding the construction of a new bridge over the trans-boundary Muhuri River in Parshuram, Feni, replacing the existing old structure that poses serious risks of accidents.
Speakers at the event said that the current bridge, which connects Parshuram with the rest of Feni district, had been in a dangerously dilapidated state for a long time and could collapse at any moment, cutting off communication among Mirzanagar, Parshuram, and Feni.
The human chain was held on the Parshuram鈥揝ubar Bazar road beside the Muhuri Bridge in the afternoon.
The event was organised by the Parshuram Development Forum and presided over by its president, Mehedi Hasan Sabuj. Forum secretary Abdul Aziz Rubel conducted it.
Speakers at the human chain included Parshuram Press Club president MA Hasan, Bangladesh Nationalist Party鈥檚 Mirzanagar union unit convener Jamal Uddin Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami union secretary Fazlur Rahman, Islami Andolon joint secretary Saiful Islam, Mission Help Foundation president Imam Hossain Sajeeb, and Subar Bazar Traders Association president Shamimul Haque Chowdhury.
