The police have arrested an elderly man who was caught on video allegedly harassing a young woman in an auto-rickshaw, a video that quickly went viral on social media.
Bangladesh Police in a Facebook post on Wednesday stated that action had been taken following the circulation of the disturbing footage.
The incident came to light after Ayesha Siddika, a student of Siddheswari Girls鈥� College, shared two videos on her personal Facebook page on Monday.
In the clips, an elderly man sitting across from her in an auto-rickshaw is seen making repeated inappropriate gestures towards her.
Ayesha explained that she had boarded the auto-rickshaw in Demra Staff Quarters, heading towards Borobhanga, when the incident occurred.
After disembarking, she confronted the man, who denied any wrongdoing.
Following the video鈥檚 rapid spread online, the police took notice and launched an investigation. Based on the findings, the suspect was identified and subsequently taken into custody.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the accused but confirmed that legal action is underway.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for strict action against public harassment and better protection for women in public spaces.
