The government has decided to constitute a committee to conduct probes and start trial process against those involved in financial crimes in the country.

The council of advisers took this decision at its meeting held at the Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) on Thursday with chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair.


Briefing reporters about the outcomes of the meeting at Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this afternoon, Environment, Forest and Climate Change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said the committee was going to be formed so that probes could be initiated and trial process could be started against those involved in financial crimes.

She said the council of advisers approved in principle to amend some sections of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 to ease sufferings of plaintiffs and to dispose of cases quickly.

To modernise the judicial procedures, from now on, summons could be served using modern technologies like SMS and telephone, Rizwana said.

She said the penalty of filing false cases has increased to Taka 50,000 from Taka 20,000.

The environment adviser said today the council of advisers also approved four ordinances - the Public Accounts Audit Ordinance, the Bank Resolution Ordinance, the Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance and the Grameen Bank Amendment Ordinance.

Chief adviser鈥檚 press secretary Shafiqul Alam was also present at the press briefing.
