An unnatural death case was filed on Friday over the death of a 23-year-old woman, whose hanging body was recovered from her house at Maghbazar under the Hatirjheel police station in the capital Dhaka Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Moumita Pal, 23, a student of Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt Anwar Girls’ College.

She was also enrolled on a Chinese language course at North South University.

Confirming the matter, Hatirjheel police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Raju said that the body was recovered at about 11:00pm on Thursday.

Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared her dead, he said.

‘The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy. The cause of her death could be known after the autopsy report,’ added the police official.

The deceased’s sister, Mridula Pal, said that their father and three sisters lived in the house and their father was out of the country for work.

‘I called my sister for dinner and she did not respond. When I heard no sound, I saw through a hole in the door that my sister hanging from the ceiling fan with her headscarf wrapped around her neck,’ she said.

Mridula said that then she called the manager of the building, rescued her sister and took her to the DMCH.
