The Dhaka South City Corporation on Saturday conducted a special cleaning operation on the highway from Jatrabari to Signboard, and from Jatrabari to Staff Quarter via Kazla in the capital.
Six hundred cleaning staffs from the Waste Management Department of DSCC participated in the drive, which started at 6:00am to remove long-accumulated waste from about 10 kilometers of the highway and its islands from Jatrabari to Signboard, and along the route from Jatrabari to Staff Quarter via Kazla.
DSCC鈥檚 administrator Md Shahjahan Mia after visiting the cleaning site said that the DSCC had taken steps to mitigate swamp in the upcoming monsoon season. 鈥楥urrently, canal restoration and drain cleaning programmes are progressing.鈥�
Shahjahan Mia said, 鈥楢 special drive to reclaim and clean canals and drains under the DSCC will be conducted from April 23.鈥�
He, however, said that special training for mosquito control workers had been started to combat the spread of dengue during the monsoon period.
In this connection, he urged the people to remain alert about dengue and supplement the government鈥檚 effort to control dengue fever as well.
Shahjahan Mia mentioned that the special initiative was undertaken following the directive of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
Chief executive officer of the DSCC Zillur Rahman and chief Waste Management Officer air commodore Md Mahbubur Rahman Talukdar, among others, were present during the drive.
