The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Pabna on Monday sent five youths, arrested in a case of killing a 7-year-old girl after rape on April 14 in a village under Chatmohar upazila in the district, to jail.

Magistrate Baby Naznin of the court sent the youths to jail after the police produced them before the court on Monday, a day after the police had informed the media about their arrest.

One of the five is 25-year-old Sohel Rana, son of Sultan Hossain of Garfa village under Baraigram upazila in Natore while four of the arrestees are aged below 18, said Chatmohar police station officer-in-charge Manjurul Alam.

Court officials said that the court initially sent the four under 18 years of age to jail but sending them to a juvenile correction centre was under process.

OC Manjurul Alam, referring to information extracted from the youths during the primary interrogation, said at a press briefing Sunday afternoon that perpetrators raped the minor girl and then strangled her to death and later burnt her face with acid in a banana orchard on April 14.

The mother of the victim later filed a murder case with Chatmohar police station accusing unknown assailants.

After the incident, Chatmohar and Baraigram police stations conducted a joint operation and arrested the five suspects, said the OC.
