Bangladesh women’s cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Joty vowed to make a good start when they take on their Indian counterparts in the first of the five-match Twenty20 international series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The match will start at 4:00pm and T Sports APP will televise the tie live.

Though India would start the series as favourites, Bangladesh have recently made significant strides, challenging the mighty neighbouring country on their most recent tour in Bangladesh.

Last year, when India visited Bangladesh, they had to work hard to win the three-match T20 series by 2-1.

Bangladesh won one game, their second against India in this format, and drew the three-match ODI series 1-1 after forcing India to tie the third match.

During the last ODI, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur smashed the stump with his bat after being given out and then lashed out at the umpires vehemently for poor umpiring.

Overall, India won 11 matches between the two sides after playing 13 matches.

‘More or less, a similar team will be playing in the World Cup. It will be a good preparation for them [India] and for us as well. We will be trying to make a good start, said Joty in Sylhet on Saturday.

The 26-year-old also believed that if they could rack up 150-plus run on the scoreboard by batting first, it would be tough for the visitors to chase.

‘If we can score 140-150-plus by batting first, it would be difficult for them to chase down. If we can amass the total, it will be easier for our bowlers to defend,’ she added.

Harmanpreet stated that they are unwilling to recall what happened at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on their previous visit in July 2023.

‘It’s a new venue, a new series; we are preparing for it and want to play good cricket. We hope that we will be able to give our 100 per cent.’

‘We are anticipating an acceptable brand of cricket. Wherever we travel, try to play good cricket. This time is not an exception either. It’s a huge opportunity for us ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup,’ she added.
