Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar has come into the 2024 T20 World Cup with just five matches after his recovery from knee injury and an inconsistent run of form but that is not stopping the batter from dreaming big ahead of the tournament.

Since his return from injury, Soumya has scored 111 runs with a strike rate of 133.73, and with him set to be opening for Bangladesh in their tournament opener against Sri Lanka, the left-hander revealed that he always liked to dream big.

‘I always dream big. I dream of becoming the champions. This is my personal thought. If someone says the goal is playing in the semis, I will say it is to play in the final,’ he said in a video published by the Bangladesh Cricket Board as part of their Green-Red Story series.

‘The result will come depending on the performance on the field. But, it is important to dream big.’

The opener added that if the new captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and the experienced campaigners – Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, and even Soumya himself – could gel together, then a good result is very much possible.

‘Shanto is a new captain. Shakib bhai, Riyad bhai are experienced. There are a few of us who have been playing for some time. If we can combine our experience to play well, then we can have a good tournament,’ he said.
