Taskin Ahmed clarified the incident of him missing the team bus ahead of Bangladesh’s match against India in their Super Eight clash of the recently concluded T20 World Cup, which caused controversy on social media.
Taskin, who is the vice-captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, saw himself muddled in controversy due to the incident.
He reached the stadium quite late and reportedly, that was the reason why the team management did not pick him for the match, which Bangladesh played with two pacers and lost by 50 runs.
Taskin explained the incident on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
‘Firstly, I would like everyone to know that most of the news and information which is being spread are nothing more than rumours and I would hope that the fans treat it as the same,’ he wrote.
‘I woke up at 8:37am and went to the lobby at 8:43am and as soon as my ride was ready, I left our hotel at 9:00am. I entered the stadium at 9:40am, 20 minutes before the match toss at 10:00am. We sang the national anthem at 10:15 am and the match started at 10:30 am.’
Previously, his teammate Shakib Al Hasan stated that Taskin had missed the team bus, which is why it was difficult to pick him in the XI.
‘Taskin reached the stadium around five to 10 minutes before the toss. So very normally, it was difficult for the team management to select him,’ the all-rounder said on Tuesday.
Taskin also informed that he will take necessary steps in case of further false accusations.
‘In future, I will address frivolous issues like this legally to ensure no one tries to malign my reputation or integrity as a sportsman or a human being,’ his statement read.
