The Bangladesh Cricket Board are looking for ways to keep Mushtaq Ahmed as their spin-bowling coach for the national team, as the former Pakistani leg-spinner joined the England Under-19 setup recently.
BCB had signed up Mushtaq for the national team ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup for the tournament, and earlier this month, president Nazmul Hasan expressed their interest in extending the coach’s contract.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, on Monday, revealed that they were still in discussions with the coach as they were looking to employ him on a needs-only basis.
‘We wanted for a specific number of days from Mushtaq early on, but that was not possible for him as he had signed other contracts beforehand. That is why we employed him until the end of the T20 World Cup,’ he told the media.
‘We have talked with him today [Monday]. He has some contracts until December. Within this time, he wants to give Bangladesh the days he is free in. We are also talking to him about a long-term contract.’
The BCB CEO also informed that they had sent Mushtaq the national team’s schedule for the coming months to know when he would be available.
