Bangladesh women’s national cricket team left Dhaka on Tuesday for the upcoming Asia Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka, which begins on Friday.
Bangladesh will play their first match on Saturday against the hosts.
After winning the Asia Cup in 2018, Bangladesh crashed out of the group stage of the next edition in 2022 at home, something they will be trying to change in this edition, as per skipper Nigar Sultana Joty.
‘We want to win something. Asia Cup is a big thing for Bangladesh cricket. We have won it once, so there’s no reason why we can’t do it again,’ she said at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Joty, who is returning from an injury on her right hand – which had a protective gear even on Tuesday – said that rather than the injury, the challenge was how they did.
‘The challenge is what we are going to do at the tournament. There are three teams who are playing good cricket – India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. If we can play collectively, then it will be competitive,’ she said.
