Bangladesh women’s national team will look to book their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Asia Cup in Sri Lanka as they take on Malaysia in their final group stage game in Dambulla today.
They are currently sitting on two points in two games as they have managed a defeat and a win in the tournament so far.
Bangladesh will hope for a dominating win against the Malaysians to not just qualify for the final four but also instil some confidence, which has been lacking so far in the tournament.
In their opening game – against the hosts Sri Lanka – Bangladesh failed to show any form of competition as they could manage only 111 batting first, which was followed by a subpar performance with the ball along with a tardy fielding display, resulting in a seven-wicket defeat.
However, they managed to bounce back in their second game against Thailand as they won the game comfortably by seven wickets.
Their bowling performance improved against the Thai team but it was still not up to the mark as they failed to take all 10 wickets, although the performance of leg-spinner Rabeya Khan will give Bangladesh some hope as she picked up four wickets on Monday.
Their batting performance – which bettered against an weaker opponent – had opener Murshida Khatun, despite struggling initially, scoring a fifty, which guided them to the win.
