Bangladesh women’s national team will take on Thailand in their second game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka today as they look to stay alive in the competition.
Bangladesh started their campaign on Saturday with a crushing seven-wicket defeat to hosts Sri Lanka, which has left them needing two wins in their remaining two games to qualify for the semi-finals, something they failed to do in the past edition of the tournament.
Their performance against the Lankans was one to forget as their batting order collapsed totally, resulting in them play catch-up throughout the game.
Only skipper Nigar Sultana Joty – who scored an unbeaten 48 – and Shorna Akter – whose cameo brought 25 runs off 14 balls, no other batter managed to stick around as five of their top six were dismissed for single-digit scores, including two ducks.
Then, when it came to bowling, everyone bar left-arm spinner Nahida Khatun – who picked up three wickets – was off-colour and a tardy fielding performance meant the hosts cruised to a win.
On the other hand, Thailand will be full of confidence, coming off a win against Malaysia and will look to replicate that result in order to reach the semis for the second time in a row.
Bangladesh, with qualification for the final four on the line, might bring in Jahanara Alam into the XI replacing Sultana Khatun, who was expensive on Saturday.
