Star of Bangladesh’s maiden Test win over Pakistan, Mushfiqur Rahim, said that he would donate his Player of the Match prize money to the flood victims of the country.
The veteran batter made 191 in Bangladesh’s first innings, which played a key role in the Tigers' historic 10-wicket win over Pakistan in the first of the two-Test series in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
This landmark win comes after 14 encounters with Pakistan. In the previous 13 Tests between the two countries, Bangladesh suffered 12 defeats and managed one draw.
‘I just want to donate, you know, in our Bangladesh, to the flood affected people. So, I want to donate this prize money to on that, and also I just want to request all the people back home and for my country those who can donate and also help in this cause,’ said Mushfiq during the post-match presentation after receiving the prize money of 300,000 Pakistani rupees (Tk 128,715).
He also felt this was one of the best knocks in his career and thanked the management for the way they were able to prepare ahead of this Test match.
‘To be honest, this is one of my finest performances so far. Because, as you said, we haven't done really well overseas. So that is one of our goals as a team so that we can put on a performance where everyone can see how we are trying to improve our batting, especially overseas,’ he said.
The right-hander also believes that their preparation for the series helped them to achieve the feat.
‘Credit goes to not only me but all the players for the way they prepared in Pakistan and also back home. And I was really, really happy. We had a pretty special camp back home with the Bangla Tigers camp, and all the local support management was there. And that was really beneficial for all the players,’ he added.
