Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan is hopeful that Bangladesh will turn things around against South Africa in the second and final Test that begins at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.

The hosts suffered a crushing seven-wicket defeat in the first Test in Dhaka after a dismal batting display in the first innings, where they were bundled out for only 106 runs.

But Nayeem thinks that they would have to play well in all three departments in order to beat the Proteas, a side they are yet to beat in this format.

‘We have to play good cricket overall — in batting, bowling, and fielding. We have to think that the result will come after five days; we have to try to do our individual work with 100 per cent,’ said the local boy.

‘We are preparing well, working on the mistakes we made in the last match’, he added.

Nayeem, who made his debut at this very ground in 2018, has some good memories as his two of three five-wicket hauls came in the port city.

Nayeem, though, went wicketless in the first Test, where he bowled 20 overs, but overall, he was hopeful the Tigers’ spin department would do well in the Chattogram Test.

‘I think the wicket will be different here than it was in Mirpur. Our spinners are in really good shape—Taijul (Islam) bhai, (Mehidy Hasan) Miraz bhai. Insha’allah, there will be a good result,’ said the 24-year old.

Bangladesh only won two out of their 24 Tests they played in this venue, with the last win coming in 2018 against the West Indies.

But Nayeem was only thinking about the process.

‘We are all hopeful; we will play for win. At the end of the day, our plan is to play with the process. The result would come after five days. If we think about the result now, then the process wouldn’t be maintained.’
