Heading into the final day, Sylhet required another 139 runs against Rangpur, having reached 51-2 in pursuit of 190 runs during their third-round National Cricket League match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Opener Pinak Ghosh and night-watchman Rejaur Rahman Raja were batting on 28 and one run, respectively, at stumps on Day 3.

Earlier in the day, Rangpur were restricted to 220 runs, with Tofael Ahmed and Rahatul Ferdous each taking three wickets, while Khaled Ahmed claimed two.

Rangpur were reeling at 69-6, then Tanbir Hayder (72) and Nobin Islam (63) amassed a 149-run partnership for the seventh wicket, lifting them from a precarious position.

At the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, Marshal Ayub smashed his 26th first-class century to propel Dhaka Metro to stage a strong fightback against Khulna division.

Earlier, Khulna made a massive 376 runs and dismissed Metro for 210 in the first innings and enforced a follow-on in a bid to force a result.

However, Marshal’s (130) and Aminul Islam’s (48) unbeaten 133-run partnership powered Dhaka to 297-4, ensuring a lead of 131 runs.

Skipper Mahidul Islam Ankon was one short of a ton as Dhaka reached 281-4, still trailing by 90 runs at stumps, in response to Chattogram’s 371 at Cox’s Bazar Academy Ground.

Overnight batters Ashikur Rahman Shibli (52) and Joyraj Sheikh (74) led Dhaka to a solid start after resuming on 22-0.

Then, Dhaka lost three wickets quickly before Ankon and Taibur Rahman steadied the innings with an impressive unbeaten partnership of 108 runs.

Ankon made 99 off 153 balls featuring five boundaries and three sixes, and Taibur scored 38 in 99, aided by two fours.

Hasan Murad and Nayeem Hasan each scalped two for Chattogram.

Earlier, Chattogram was buoyed by Sazzadul Hoque Ripon’s maiden first-class century of 139 and Parvez Hossain Emon’s 95 to post a strong total.

A collective batting performance helped Rajshahi Division post 275 in reply to Barishal’s 205, taking a narrow first-innings lead of 70 runs at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium.

Wicket-keeper batter Pritom Kumer was the top scorer with 80 runs; Meherob Hasan (36) and Nihad Uz Zaman (33) played 30-plus knocks individually. Ruyel Miah claimed 3-41 for Barishal.

Barishal reached 10-0 at the end of the day’s play, reducing the deficit to 60 runs. Openers Abdul Mazid (8) and first innings centurion Iftakhar Hossain Ifti (1) were on the crease.
