Chattogram Division secured their first win in the ongoing National Cricket League when they crushed Barishal by eight wickets in their fourth-round match at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.

Set a meagre target of 82 runs, Chattogram batters Parvez Hossain Emon struck 46 off 30 and Nayeem Hasan scored 30 off 31 to get the team off the mark in just 11.3 overs.


Chattogram spinner Ashraful Hasan completed his 10-wicket haul in the second innings, returning 4-68 in the first innings and 6-44 in the second to fold Barishal to 77, complemented by Nayeem’s 3-56.

Fazle Mahmud Rabbi was the lone batter from Barishal to show some resistance, scoring 33 runs.

Resuming on 202-3, captain Shahadat Hossain Dipu (116) smashed a hundred while Yasir Ali (99) as Chattogram made 313 in response to Barishal’s first innings’ 318, leaving a deficit of five runs.

At the Sylhet Academy Ground, Dhaka Metro reached 186-6, boarding on Aminul Islam Biplob’s 82-run knock in the face of adversity to help the side take a lead of 175 runs at the end of the third day’s play.

Skipper Naim Sheikh played a notable 48-run innings while Tahjibul Isam and Abu Hider Rony remained unbeaten on 31 and two runs, respectively.

Dhaka Division finished on 315 in reply to Metro’s 304, taking a narrow 11-run lead in their first innings. 

Rangpur were on the verge of a win, as medium-pacer Ariful Hoque scalped 3-10, reducing Rajshahi to 62-6 in their chase of 263 at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.

At stumps, Meherob Hasan and Golam Kibria were batting on nine and eight runs, respectively, as Rangpur needed another 201 runs.

Earlier in the day, Akbar Ali made 77 while Tanbir Hayder played a cautious 40 to guide Rangpur to 262 in their second innings after both teams had scored 189 runs each in their first innings.

In another match at Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet took a massive 223-run first-innings lead against Khulna by bowling them out for 273 runs.

Table toppers Sylhet posted an impressive total of 496-7d in their first innings, after a double century from Amite Hasan, who scored 213, and a century from Asadulla Al Galib, contributing 115 runs.
