
The bowlers dominated the opening day of the fifth round of the National Cricket League on Saturday, with a total of 50 wickets falling across the four matches.
A total of 18 wickets fell during the match between Rajshahi and Chattogram at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Chattogram Pacer Fahad Hossain claimed a five-for to dismantle Rajshahi for 112 runs inside 34 overs after opting to bowl first.Â
Golam Kibria top scored with 23 for Rajshahi.
Chattogram made a solid start as the openers Parvez Hossain (41) and Sadikur Rahman (54) added 96 runs.Â
But the dismissal of Parvez triggered a dramatic collapse as the hosts lost eight wickets for just 44 runs.
Shamim Hossain, who remained unbeaten on 19, and Ahmed Sharif (20) rescued them as Chattogram reached 173-8, taking a 61-run lead at the end of the day.Â
Sabbir Hossain and Wasi Siddique took three wickets each for Rajshahi.
Imrul, who received a guard of honour from both his teammates and the opponents, scored 16 off 27 in the first innings of his last first-class match as Khulna were bowled out for 172 after opting to bat first against Dhaka at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.Â
Imrul was also felicitated by the Khulna Cricketers’ Welfare Association and Division Cricket Council to mark the occasion.
Captain Mohammad Mithun (69) hit the lone fifty of Khulna’s innings while pacer Sumon Khan took 6 wickets for 50 runs for Dhaka.Â
Dhaka were 58-3 and trailing by 114 runs when bad light stopped the day’s play. Ariful Islam (15) and Mosaddek Hossain (20) remained unbeaten.
Table-topper Sylhet gained the upper hand against Dhaka Metro, piled up 137-2, leading by 7 runs at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Metro managed only 130 runs in 43.1 overs after being put
into bat with captain Naim Sheikh top-scoring with 31 runs.Â
Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed took 4 for 19 runs while pacers Khaled Ahmed and Rejaur Rahman each took three wickets.
In reply, Sylhet captain Amite Hasan (51) and Mubin Ahmed (19) remained unbeaten while Taufiq Khan scored 42 runs.
Batting first, Barishal reached 266-7 against Rangpur at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Barishal recovered from 43-3 through a fourth-wicket partnership of 111 runs between Iftakher Hossain (70) and Salman Hossain (67).Â
Tasamul Haque (51) then added another 69 runs with Shohag Gazi (35) for the sixth wicket.
Abdullah Al Mamun took two wickets while Mukidul Islam, Abdul Gaffar, and Ariful Haque took one wicket each.
