Wicketkeeper-batter Dilara Akter has been added to the Bangladesh women’s squad for the remaining two matches of the ODI series against Ireland.Â
Bangladesh lead the series 1-0 after winning the first ODI by 154 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Chief selector of BCB’s women’s wing Sazzad Ahmed Shipon told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that this was a move to have a safety cushion.Â
‘We want to have a safety cushion in our squad,’ Sazzad said.
‘[Nigar Sultana] Joty had been the only wicketkeeper batter in the squad for the series. No one is excluded; Dilara has just been added as the 16th member in the team.’
Dilara last played in the 50-over format in December 2022. She made her debut against New Zealand and played two ODIs. She has been a regular in T20Is but has not played in ODIs since.Â
Her inclusion came on the back of the injury to Sharmin Akter, who scored a match winning 96 off 89 balls in the first ODI.
Sharmin, playing for Bangladesh for the first time in almost one-and-a half-year, sustained the injury while fielding and as a result left the field. She was adjudged the player of the match later.Â
The second match between the two nations will be held at the same venue on Saturday.
