The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday announced its plans to increase the number of players under contract in the pool of women cricketers.
The national pool already has around 25 cricketers under contract, and the BCB will extend that pool by introducing first-class contracts for 30 more players, replicating the model for the men in the country’s cricketing structure.
‘We have central contracts for the women cricketers in the national pool. In addition to that, we will bring in 30 more cricketers under contract. It’ll be like the men’s cricketers; we have contracts for players who play in the national league. So, we will start that for the women as well,’ BCB president Faruque Ahmed told reporters after a board meeting in Mirpur on Saturday.
The BCB boss said that the women’s team players will now be receiving performance-based bonuses just like the Bangladesh men’s national team players.Â
‘We have set a winning bonus for the women. This is new. As you all know, it’s a ranking-based system. If they beat the top three-ranked sides, there is a certain amount that is given as a bonus, and if they beat the 4th, 5th, and 6th-ranked sides, the amount is different. It will be the same for the women. The amount will be different between the men and women, but they (the women’s cricket team) will get a bonus.’
The BCB president also announced that every member of the Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team, including officials and coaching staff, will receive Tk 3 lakh for winning the ACC U-19 Men’s Asia Cup earlier this month.
