Mahedi Hasan spun it Rangpur Riders’ favour as they beat Dhaka Capitals by 40 runs in the second match on the opening day of the BPL at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

Dhaka, chasing 192, were restricted to 151-9 in 20 overs. Off-spinner Mahedi took 4 for 27 runs.

Rangpur Riders, being put into bat first, became the third team to post 190-plus total on the opening day thanks to three 40-plus innings from Saif Hasan (40 off 33), Iftikhar Ahmed (49 off 38), and Khushdil Shah (46* off 23) with Nurul Hasan’s cameo of 11-ball 25.

Rangpur recovered from 20-2 within three overs. Alauddin Babu took 3 for 43 while Mukidul Islam grabbed 2 for 27 for Dhaka.

The openers started well in the big chase for Dhaka, as Tanzid Hasan (30) and Liton Das (31) posted 65 runs. But then they lost four wickets for just 10 runs in a space of 15 balls and never found their way again.Â
