Rangpur Riders made a remarkable turnaround against Khulna Tigers to close off the Sylhet phase of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League as they defended 12 runs in the last over on Monday.Ìý

Some exciting finishes, the dominance of bat over ball, and some individual brilliance were the highlights of the Sylhet phase in the 11th edition of BPL, where 12 matches were played.Ìý

The wickets were pretty good for batting throughout the six days, and dews in the evening made it harder for the bowlers, especially the spinners.

The boundaries were kept significantly short, especially straight off the wicket, and the batters certainly enjoyed that too.Ìý

As a result, 9.26 runs were scored per over in Sylhet, whereas Mirpur saw a run rate of 8.66.Ìý

Rangpur have shown their batting and bowling prowess and now have 14 points from seven matches.

They are in striking distance from securing a playoff berth ahead of the Chattogram phase, which starts on Thursday.Ìý

Rangpur’s dream run continued in Sylhet as they won all four matches there to take their winning streak to seven. The table-toppers played some exciting cricket as well.Ìý

They started by chasing 205 against Sylhet Strikers thanks to a brilliant hundred from Englishman Alex Hales and an 80-run innings from Saif Hassan.Ìý

After beating Dhaka Capitals comfortably, Rangpur again chased down 197 against defending champions Fortune Barishal.Ìý

Needing 26 off the last six deliveries, Nurul Hasan went all guns blazing against West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers to score 30 and thus putting his name in the record books.Ìý

After the match, Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal was involved in a brawl with Hales as Tamim needed to be restrained from rushing towards the English batter.Ìý

Opposite statements were given then from both sides, but it was reported that Tamim was given one demerit point for his action.Ìý

Chittagong Kings made significant strides in Sylhet as they won both of their matches. They toppled Fortune Barishal in terms of run rate to be in second as well as playing a match less than Barishal.Ìý

Chittagong, though, haven’t played against Rangpur or Barishal in this phase, but they’ll have to play as many as five matches when the competition moves to Chattogram.Ìý

Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Sagarika will host 12 matches in six days, just like Sylhet did.Ìý

Sylhet Strikers, who played as many as five matches in their ‘home’ ground, opened their winning account. They’ve now two wins from six outings.Ìý

Dhaka, after losing six in a row, got their first win in style as Liton Das and Tanzid Hasan rewrote history.Ìý

Liton smashed his first T20 ton on the day he was scrapped from the Bangladesh team for the forthcoming Champions Trophy, while Tanzid hit his second hundred in the same match against Durbar Rajshahi.Ìý

The duo added 241 runs for the opening stand, which is the second highest for any wicket in T20 history.Ìý

Later, Dhaka beat Rajshahi by 149 runs—a record margin in BPL.Ìý

Rajshahi, meanwhile, have had mixed feelings in Sylhet as they lost two while winning one.Ìý

But the Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led Khulna Tigers suffered three consecutive defeats as they failed to clinch a couple of close encounters.

After winning two from two in Mirpur, Khulna lost to Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur. Their margins of defeat against Sylhet and Rangpur were exactly the same—eight runs.Ìý
