Fortune Barishal demolished Dhaka Capitals as they won by a massive margin of nine wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday to secure their top-two finish in the ongoing BPL.Â
Dhaka were bundled out for just 73 runs—the lowest of the season—in 15.3 overs. Barishal chased that down with 81 balls remaining—the record of BPL.
Dawid Malan (37 off 16) and Tamim Iqbal (21 off 14) remained unbeaten before Towhid Hridoy first put his foot on the gas with 15 off nine.Â
The win took Barishal to 18 points from 11 matches and thus ensured their first qualifier match in the playoffs.Â
On the other hand, Dhaka knew even before going into the match that they were no longer in contention for the playoffs, as Chittagong Kings’ win over Rangpur Riders earlier in the day ensured their elimination.
Tanvir Islam, Mohammad Nabi, and Faheem Ashraf were all over them as the trio took three wickets apiece.Â
No fairy tales were waiting for Dhaka as Malan & Co showed no mercy to them in the second half of the match either. More than 19,000 spectators—the highest of the season so far—witnessed the one-sided affair.Â
