The Bangladesh women’s team suffered a crushing 106-run defeat against West Indies in the second T20I and lost the three-match series at the Warner Park in St Kitts on Thursday.

Kiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin starred with the bat and powered the hosts to a record total of 201-6, while Bangladesh managed only 95-9 in the allotted overs.Ìý

As a result, West Indies won the match by the largest margin in terms of runs in T20I and took an unassailable 2-0 lead, following their eight-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in the first match.Ìý

Nigar Sultana Joty admitted their experiment went wrong against the West Indies and credited the opponents for their batting prowess.Ìý

‘It was our plan to bowl first. Somewhere you need to think out of the box. We failed today. We gave away too many runs,’ said Joty during the post-match conference.

‘I think the leg spinners bowled well. But the batters hit good balls for boundaries also. At the end of the day, it’s just a game.’

Earlier, West Indies got off to a flying start as Qiana Joseph and captain Hayley Matthews hit a 53-run partnership before Hayley got out on 27.

Qiana continued and reached her half-century, while Deandra Dottin struck five maximums and three fours to make 49 off 20 balls.Ìý

Qiana scored 63 off 36 balls with nine fours and two sixes. Shabika Gajnabi played a cameo of 24 in 13 to take the score past 200.

Fahima Khatun carried her form and claimed three wickets while Rabeya Khan took two.

Bangladesh never looked to be able to chase the target as the bowlers kept striking constantly.

Though they made a desired start to their innings by scoring 15 runs in the first over, however, everything went odd after that.Ìý

Sobhana Mostary (0), Taj Nehar (5), and Dilara Akter (8) fell in quick succession; skipper Joty scored only 10 runs, and Sharmin Akter scored the highest 22 for the visitors.

The third match is scheduled on February 1.
