Hannan Sarkar is set to step down from his position as Bangladesh national team selector to pursue his career in coaching.

The former national team opener, who served the Bangladesh Cricket Board as a selector for one-year, confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to the board, which will be effective from March 1.

Hannan, appointed as a national selector on March 1, 2024, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Sunday that his decision was based on his future plans.

‘The decision is based on how I want to build my career in the long term. I want to coach,’ said Hannan.Ìý

He also mentioned that BCB is recognising the local coaches' work, which made him pursue the new challenge.

Recently, BCB appointed Mohammad Salahuddin as the senior assistant coach of the Bangladesh national team.Ìý

‘I have been working with BCB. I will continue to do so in a different capacity,’ added Hannan.Ìý

The 42-year-old played 37 international matches for Bangladesh between 2002 and 2004. His First-class career spanned nearly a decade.

After retiring, Hannan worked as a coach in the NCL, BPL, and Dhaka Premier League. He has a level two coaching certificate.

In 2016, he joined BCB as an age-level selector, the role he served until his promotion to senior national side last year.

The Bangladesh Under-19 team clinched the World Cup for the first time when he was an age-level selector.

Hannan said after leaving the selector’s role, his first target would be to coach a Dhaka Premier League side. He has already started to negotiate with the clubs.Ìý

The Bangladesh national selector panel currently comprises Gazi Ashraf Hossain (chairman), Abdur Razzak, and Hannan.
