The owner of the BPL franchise, Durbar Rajshahi, Shafiqur Rahman, assured he would pay the dues by February 10 after he had been taken into custody by the law enforcement.

The franchise has been in the centre of the controversy in the ongoing BPL as they continue to fail to pay the salaries to the players.

The BCB and then the ministry of youth and sports had to intervene to solve the matter. Earlier, the advisor for the corresponding ministry, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiya, said that they would take action if the franchise failed to pay the dues.

Then on Monday, a press release issued by the ministry stated that Durbar Rajshahi has brought disrepute to the country in the international arena by violating contracts with its players, coaching staff, and the management.

After failing the deadline of February 2 to pay the 50 per cent and amid the rumour that the owner would flee the country, Shafiq was taken into custody.

‘When asked about the solutions, admitting his guilt, he [Shafiq] assured to pay the dues in three installments of 25 percent on February 3, 7, and 10,’ the statement read.

The ministry has already formed a fact-finding committee to look into the anomalies of the BPL.
