
Newcomers Sheltech Cricket Academy arrived on the scene in style as they beat defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club by 53 runs on the opening day of the Dhaka Premier Division Women鈥檚 Cricket League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Sheltech put 249-9 in 50 overs thanks to a 101-ball 83 from Sumaiya Akter and 68 off 80 from opener Isham Tanjim. National team spinner Sanjida Akter took 4-35 while pacer Fariha Trishna grabbed 3-54.
Mohammedan, in reply, stumbled to 196 in 48.1 overs despite Sharmin Akter鈥檚 73 off 103 balls. Experienced leg-spinner Fahima Khatun took 3-33 from 10 overs for Nigar Sultana Joty-led Sheltech.
In the day鈥檚 other match, Abahani Limited registered a comprehensive victory over Bangladesh Police Cricket Academy. Police got all out for just 98 runs in 38.3 overs at the BKSP-1 in Savar, with Reya Akter taking 3-13 in seven overs.
Captain and opener Farzana Haque then got Abahani home with her unbeaten fifty (55 off 72) to clinch the victory with four wickets and almost half of the allotted overs remaining.
In the other match of the day, Gulshan Youth Club crushed Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Shamity.
Khelaghar managed to put on only 64 runs at the ULAB cricket ground in Mohammadpur as Sandiha Islam took 6-9. Suraya Azmin also grabbed 3-4.
Gulshan got home in just 17 overs with seven wickets remaining.
