Yasir Ali’s big hundred set up Dhanmondi Sports Club’s 24-run win over Legends of Rupganj in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the BKSP-3 on Friday.Â
Yasir’s 143 off 121 balls with seven fours and sixes helped Dhanmondi to post 332-7 in 50 overs. In reply, Rupganj were restricted to 308-9 as both Saif Hassan (95) and Afif Hossain (98) fell short of their respective hundreds.
After being put into bat first, Dhanmondi found themselves in an uncomfortable position at 27-2 when Yasir came to bat at four. They soon became 57-3, before Yasir added 50 (73), 146 (112), and 69 (32) with captain Nurul Hasan (33), Moin Khan (62 off 63), and Ziaur Rahman (40 off 18), respectively, to post a formidable total.Â
Yasir shifted gear after reaching his fifty in 73 balls as he reached his hundred in just 97 balls. He scored his last 93 runs in just 48 deliveries. Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam took three for 50 for Rupganj.Â
Rupganj lost Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, and Mahmudul Hasan for just 26 runs in 7.2 overs in their chase. Saif and Afif then rebuilt their innings with a partnership of 174 runs off 172 balls.Â
But none could finish it off, and the last wicket partnership of 47 runs between Tanvir and Rejaur Rahman (49* off 39) turned out futile.
At BKSP-4, Al-Amin Hossain took five wickets while Mahfijul Islam and Mizanur Rahman smashed twin hundreds to put on a record partnership for Brothers Union as they beat Shinepukur Cricket Club by seven wickets.Â
After being put into bat first, Shinepukur made 288-9 in 50 overs thanks to Rahim Ahmed’s 95 and contributions from the captain Rayan Rafsan (47) and Anik Sarker. Pacer Al-amin, who took 5-50, struck in the top, middle, and lower orders of the Shinepukur innings.Â
In reply, Brothers lost Imtiaz Hossain in the second over. But Mahfijul and Mizanur stood up firm to add 250 runs for the second wicket before Mizanur was retired hurt.Â
This is now the highest partnership for the second wicket and the fourth highest overall in the history of DPL.Â
Mizanur scored 136 off 129 balls with 10 fours and five sixes, while Mahfijul made 114 off 127 with five fours and four sixes.Â
In the day’s other match, Gazi Group Cricketers beat the Agrani Bank Cricket Club by four wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.Â
After being put into bat first, Agrani Bank managed only 216 in 46.2 overs despite Amit Hasan’s 89 off 111 and Imrul Kayes’ 50 off 50 off 61.Â
Abdul Gaffar Saqlain took 3-35 while Mukidul Islam and Tofael Ahmed each took two wickets for Gazi Group. Â
In reply, opener Sadikur Rahman (89 off 96) and number three Tofael (52 off 64) set up the chase nicely for Gazi Group despite losing another opener and their captain Anamul Haque for a duck.Â
Sadikur added 107 runs and then 54 runs with Tofael and Shamsur, respectively, as Gazi Group got home with 14 balls remaining.
