All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been cleared to bowl again after successfully completing an independent reassessment on his third attempt.

Shakib, who was suspected of an illegal bowling action during his county stint with Surrey in England last September, failed his test twice before.

Finally, the former Bangladesh captain was able to remedy his action, confirmed by Shakib to the ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Thursday morning.

Later, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that they had received information on the outcome of the independent re-assessment of Shakib’s bowling action carried out at Loughborough University, UK, on March 9, 2025.

The statement said, ‘The BCB understands that according to the latest assessment report, Shakib has successfully remedied his action, and his suspension from bowling in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Competitive County Cricket and the Hundred will be lifted with immediate effect.’

Shakib failed his first test at the same centre late last year, prompting the ECB to suspend him. In accordance with clause 11.3 of the ICC’s regulations for illegal bowling actions, the ICC and all national cricket federations automatically recognised and enforced his suspension in international cricket and in their respective domestic competitions.

Shakib then failed the test again in December at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai.

Subsequently, the all-rounder was not picked in the Bangladesh squad for the Champions Trophy which was held in February-March though he was permitted to play as a specialist batter. Shakib earlier said that he would retire from the ODI after playing in that tournament.

Shakib, a former MP of the now-ousted Awami League government, is yet to return to Bangladesh since August last year.

He intended to bid farewell to Test cricket with the match against South Africa in Mirpur last year but was unable to return to the country.

Shakib last played for Bangladesh in the two Tests against India in September, and his last ODI came during the 2023 World Cup.Â
