Pacer Shoriful Islam registered his career-best figure of 6-40 to help Legends of Rupganj secure a narrow 10-run win over Brothers Union in D/L method in a rain-affected match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.
Brothers needed 18 off the last eight deliveries with one wicket remaining while chasing 277 when rain intervened to spoil the thrilling encounter.
The match couldn鈥檛 resume as Rupganj ensured their spot in the Super League with 13 points with one match remaining.聽
Earlier, Soumya Sarker hit 80 off 79 to set up a fighting 277-9 in 50 overs for Rupganj. Mahmudul Hasan and Jaker Ali also contributed with 59 and 44 runs respectively.聽
Mahfijul Islam (76) and Aich Mollah (47) lifted Brothers from a precarious position of 9-2 to give themselves a shot at victory.
Shoriful, though, ripped through their middle order as they became 260-9 before rain had the final say.聽
Gazi Group Cricketers also confirmed their Super League spot after thrashing Partex Sporting Club by 170 runs at the BKSP-3.聽
Gazi Group posted 302-7 in 50 overs thanks to Anamul Haque鈥檚 (78), Sabbir Hossen鈥檚 (64), and Shamim Mia鈥檚 (53).聽
Partex were then restricted to 132 in 31.5 overs to hand Gazi Group a big win. Eight bowlers were used by Gazi Group as Shamim and Wasi Siddique took two wickets each.聽
Captain Nurul Hasan鈥檚 97 guided Dhanmondi Sports Club to a five-wicket win over Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at the BKSP-4 in the day鈥檚 other match.
Tigers put on a competitive total of 280-7 in 50 overs as Nasir Hossain made 77 off 84 balls. Asadulla Al Galib and Ariful Haque also made 65 and 48 off 28 balls.
Fazle Mahmud took 3-59 for Dhanmondi.
Azmir Ahmed (40 off 30) and Habibur Rahman (33 off 24) paved the way for Dhanmondi with a flying start. Nurul then took over with the company of Yasir Ali (55* off 40).
Nurul missed his hundred and couldn鈥檛 finish the game off, but Yasir was there as Dhanmondi avoided the relegation league.聽
