Anisul Islam Emon smashed a hundred while Ebadot Hossain claimed 4-36 as Mohammedan Sporting Club beat arch-rivals Abahani Limited by 39 runs in List-A cricket for the first time in nine years in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams have equal 18 points after the final league phase match, with nine wins in eleven matches, but Abahani retained their top spot due to a better run rate, despite losing the day’s encounter.

Opener Anisul’s 114 off 118 featuring 18 fours and two sixes and Mahidul Islam Ankon’s 48 off 55 guided Mohammaden to 264-10 in 48.2 overs, after being put into bat first.

Pacer Nahid Rana was the pick of the bowlers for Abahani with 3-49.

In reply, Mohammedan bowlers, led by Ebadot, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2-31) and Saifuddin (2-44), restricted Abahani to 225 in 47.2 overs.

Chasing, Abahani lost three early wickets, but Najmul Hossain Shanto kept them in the hunt as he top-scored with 80 off 113 balls, but the defending champions’ innings crumbled as soon as the left-handed batter departed.

Abdul Majid’s ton propelled Rupganj Tigers to post a solid 250-6 in allotted overs. In response, Shinepukur Cricket Club were restricted to 222 as they won the match by 28 runs at the BKSP-3.

Put into bat first, Majid played an unbeaten 102 in 139 balls with six fours and two sixes, while Mahmudul Hasan chipped in 56 off 54 to help them reach the 250-mark.

Chasing, three fifties from Shinepukur batters—Moinul Islam (50), Rahim Ahmed (53), and Shahrear Shakib (53)—were not enough to secure a victory.

Mahmudul Hasan scalped 4-31 and Jibon took 3-48 for Tigers.

In the day’s other match, Azizul Haque Tamim starred with a 106-ball 105 as Gulshan Cricket Club secured a five-wicket win over Prime Bank Cricket Club at the BKSP0-4.

Batting first, Prime Bank managed only 203 before getting all out. Opener Naim Sheikh contributed 36 runs, but the middle order faltered as they lost wickets at regular intervals to become 104-5 at one stage.

Irfan Shukkur and Sajjadul Haque Ripon revived the innings, with Irfan scoring 43 off 74 while Sajjadul Haque remained unbeaten on 51 runs.

Five of the six bowlers were among the wickets, with Mehedi Hasan taking three and Asaduzzaman Payel and Naeem Islam each picking up two for Gulshan.

In reply, despite early wickets, Azizul remained steadfast and reached his half-century off 56 balls before converting it to a hundred in 104 balls.

He struck 10 boundaries and three sixes to play the match-winning knock as Gulshan chased down the target comfortably.
