Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Towhid Hridoy has been banned for four matches after being found guilty of breaching the BCB Code of Conduct during the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Gazi Group Cricketers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on April 26.Ìý
As a result, Hridoy will miss the league-decider match against arch-rivals Abahani Limited in Mirpur on Tuesday.Ìý
Hridoy was charged with showing dissent at an umpire’s decision after he was given caught behind off leg-spinner Wasi Siddique during the match. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, and fourth official ATM Ikram.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the BCB said, ‘Hridoy denied the charge and opted to contest it at a full disciplinary hearing. However, despite prior communication, he failed to appear at the hearing scheduled in the umpires' dressing room.’
In accordance with Clause 5.2.6 of the Code of Conduct for the DPDCL 2024–25, Match Referee Akhtar Ahmad proceeded with the matter and imposed a sanction of a fine of Taka 10,000 and the addition of one demerit point.
The latest demerit point brought Hridoy’s total to eight, who already had seven demerit points to his name from previous breaches. Ìý
Earlier, Hridoy was banned for two matches for breaching the code of conduct during their league match against Abahani.Ìý
However, the Umpires Committee overruled the sanction and allowed him to play after serving a one-match ban.Ìý
But the technical committee reinstated the ban, which caused fresh controversy. The players, led by Tamim Iqbal, went for a meeting with the BCB president Faruque Ahmed on Friday.Ìý
Tamim then called the incident ‘laughable’. BCB then said that Hridoy’s remaining one-match ban would be deferred by one year, which allowed him to continue to play this season.Ìý
But now Hridoy’s ban will be effective immediately.Ìý
