
The country鈥檚 growth in gross domestic product in the third quarter of the concluding FY24 stood at 6.12 per cent.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics that released the growth rate between January and March on Tuesday recorded GDP growth at 3.78 per cent at the end of the second quarter.
The statistical bureau, however, did not consider the correction in export data by Bangladesh Bank in preparing the third quarter data.
The quarterly GDP growth, according to a senior bureau official, had been聽 calculated on the basis of production in the local level.
Exports and imports are not included in the quarterly calculation, said the official, adding that exports, imports and consumption were considered during overall GDP assessment.聽聽聽聽
The officials said that the correction in export data by around $14 billion would be reflected in the final calculation of the GDP for FY24.
The BBS that released provisional GDP growth rate of 5.82 per cent in May will make the final calculation in the December鈥揓anuary period.
Under the $4.7 billion loan progarmme with the International Monetary Fund, the BBS has been calculating the quarterly DGP growth since FY23.聽聽聽聽
The surge in the quarterly GDP growth shown by the bureau comes from the good performances in all the major sectors, including agriculture, industries and service.
The agriculture sector growth reached 5.46 per cent in the January鈥揗arch period, compared with 5.46 per cent in the October鈥揇ecember period.
The industries sector growth jumped to 7.03 per cent in in the January鈥揗arch period, compared with 3.24 per cent in the October鈥揇ecember period.
The bureau recorded 4.97 per cent growth in service sector in the January鈥揗arch period from 3.06 per cent in the October鈥揇ecember period.
