The interim government on Wednesday appointed a national taskforce for the semiconductor sector.
The 13-member taskforce to be led by executive chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority and the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority for uniting Non-Resident Bangladeshi industry leaders, academics, and top government representatives to drive the sectoral growth.
The initiative aims to advance Bangladesh鈥檚 capabilities in testing, assembly, and chip design, marking a significant step towards unlocking the country鈥檚 potential in this high-value industry, according a press release by BIDA on the day.
鈥楤angladesh鈥檚 strategic location near the Asia-Pacific supply chain, competitive labor costs, and young, skilled workforce make it an ideal destination for global semiconductor leaders,鈥� said the executive chairman of BIDA and BEZA.聽
By uniting expertise from Bangladeshi diaspora, industry, academia, and policy, the country鈥檚 role will be strengthened in the global value chain and build a future-ready, innovation-driven economy, he said.
The taskforce鈥檚 mandate includes identifying immediate growth opportunities, addressing policy and skill gaps, and recommending infrastructure and incentive frameworks to attract global investment.
The taskforce is expected to come up with actionable results by the end of the current month.
Members of the committee are chairman, National Board of Revenue, Secretary, ICT Division, Mohammed Enayetur Rahman, CEO, Ulka Semi, Istak Ahmmed, Chairman, Prime Silicon Technology (BD) Ltd, MA Jabbar, managing director, Neural Semiconductor Ltd, Professor ABM Harun-ur-Rashid, head of department, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Maj Gen Md Nasim Parvez, commandant, Military Institute of Science and Technology, Professor Syed Mahfuzul Aziz, pro-VC, BRAC University, Mashuk Rahman, founder, Green Quest, USA, Mustafiz Choudhury, semiconductor expert, Silicon Valley, Zahirul Alam, executive director, Integrated Development Foundation, Nahian Rahman Rochi, head of business development, BIDA, will act as the member secretary.
