More than 1.4 million taxpayers have so far submitted their returns online this year while more than 1.8 million taxpayers have completed registration for e-returns.
The National Board of Revenue鈥檚 online income tax return filing system has received a huge response from taxpayers, according to an NBR press release.
It said that, based on the demands and opinions from the esteemed taxpayers, the online return filing process had been gradually simplified and made more taxpayer-friendly.
The NBR has already decided to continue the online income tax return filing service throughout the year even after the Income Tax Day.
If the return is submitted after the Income Tax Day, the taxpayer will not get investment tax rebate and any tax exemption as per Section 76 of the Income Tax Act, 2023.
Moreover, additional tax will be imposed at the rate of 2 per cent per month (maximum 24 months) as per Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023 on the amount of tax that remains unpaid on the tax day.
