The government approved a new assessment system for the national curriculum on Monday.
The National Curriculum Coordination Committee, chaired by education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, gave the approval at a meeting, held in the secretariat.
‘The assessment will take effect immediately,’ National Curriculum and Textbook Board acting chairman professor Md Moshiuzzaman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
‘Half-yearly assessments in schools will start from the day after tomorrow under the new system,’ he added.
Under the new assessment, students will not be evaluated by the grade point average, and no test examinations will be held before the SSC level public summative assessment for Class X students. The students, instead, will be evaluated on a seven-point scale in the public assessment.
To participate in the final summative and public assessment, students will need 70 per cent class attendance and must complete 50 per cent of the continuous assessment procedure.
In the SSC assessment, students with a ‘bikashaman scale’ in two subjects will be allowed to move to Class XI, but they must secure a better scale in those subjects. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to take the next public exams after completing Class XII.
In 2023, the government introduced the new national school curriculum to Classes I, VI, and VII across the country. It is set to be fully adopted for Classes XI and XII by 2027.
