The University of Dhaka at a syndicate meeting on Wednesday made a decision to lift the ban on academic ties with Pakistan.
The DU pro-vice-chancellor for administration Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha on Monday told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the decision would be implemented after the DU VC Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan will sign the necessary documents.
‘He is now staying abroad,’ she said, adding that the DU earlier had received proposals for scholarships and seminars for its teachers and students from Pakistan.
‘Based on the proposals, when the VC presented the issue to the syndicate, everyone approved it,’ the pro-VC mentioned, saying that the academic decision was made keeping in mind the interests of the students and teachers.
Earlier on December 14, 2015, the DU cut all academic ties with Pakistan at a syndicate meeting with former DU VC Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair, saying that until Pakistan offered apology for the genocide in the War of Independence, it would continue.
The then VC at a press briefing said that the DU students, teachers and representatives could not go to any Pakistani institutions, and the DU would not accept any representatives from the country for any academic purposes.
