A group of female students of Dhaka University on Sunday announced a symbolic hunger strike in front of the vice-chancellor’s residence demanding guaranteed residential facilities.
They made the announcement at a press conference held at the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association conference room.
The students stated that they would begin their symbolic hunger strike at 10:00 am on Monday in front of the VC’s residence.
The participants will include first-year female students who have been deprived of residential accommodations. During the press conference, a written statement on behalf of the students was read out by Israt Jahan Emu, a student from Shamsun Nahar Hall.
She mentioned that female students on December 29 submitted a memorandum to the VC demanding 100 per cent residential facilities but the authorities are yet to meet their demand.
