The primary and mass education affairs adviser, Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, on Sunday said that all primary students would get textbooks by January.
He made the comment while sharing opinion with the officials of the field-level administration on ‘what to do in developing primary education’ at the Chattogram Circuit House in the port city, said a press release issued by the ministry.
The adviser made the comment while the National Curriculum and Textbook Board was struggling to distribute textbooks among the students.
Till Sunday, about 17 crore out of about 40.15 crore textbooks had been distributed among the students. Around 80 per cent of textbooks for primary schoolchildren were distributed until the day, officials said.
This year, according to the NCTB, 40.15 crore copies of textbooks –– 62 lakh for pre-primary, 8.55 crore for primary, 30.81 crore for secondary and 1.92 lakh for national minority students — are scheduled to be distributed among about four crore pre-primary, primary, secondary, secondary vocational, ibtedayi, dakhil vocational, and visually challenged students.
The adviser, addressing the programme, urged the journalists to inform the government about any kind of corruption in the education sector.
The adviser mentioned that many education policies were formed after the Liberation War but none came into effect. He termed it as a ‘national problem’.
Emphasising on primary education, the adviser urged the country’s people to come forward for reforms in the education sector.
Chattogram divisional commissioner Md Ziauddin presided over the programme.
