Theatre artiste, screenwriter and filmmaker Masud Sumon said that he enjoyed working in all mediums.
鈥楴owadays, there are many artistes who act in different mediums. Besides, some artistes prefer to work exclusively in one medium. However, I enjoy working in all mediums,鈥� said Masud Sumon, who has been pursuing acting since 2000. He has been participating in many national and international theatre festivals, workshops and seminars as actor, trainer and organiser since 2004.
鈥業 have been working with theatre troupe Loko Natyadal as a theatre actor, trainer and organiser for the past 24 years. I have participated in nine theatre productions of the troupe and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy鈥檚 production titled 鈥楬elmet鈥� directed by Ataur Rahman,鈥� said Sumon.
He said that theatre activists have to engage in different professions to earn bread and butter because professional theatre does not exist in the country.
鈥業 am working at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy as a cultural officer because I cannot make a living as a theatre activist in the country. Many talented artistes have to leave the theatre sector to earn bread and butter. As a result, our theatre sector is missing out on talented artistes,鈥� mentioned Sumon.
鈥楾heatre troupes and the government should play a role in establishing professional theatre in the country,鈥� he added.
Sumon has acted in Loko Natya Dal鈥檚 productions, including Kanjush, Majh Rater Manushera, Toposhi o Torongini, Amra Tinjan and Lilabati Akhyan.
鈥業t is a good thing that theatre artistes can work in small screen productions, web films and films as actors and voice actors nowadays,鈥� said Sumon, who began his career as a director in 2020.
鈥業 started my career as a director in 2020. My first short film 鈥淒usky Voyage鈥� won the Best Film Jury Award at the 11th Delhi Shorts International Film Festival 2022. The film was also screened in many international film festivals,鈥� said Sumon, who also spoke about his latest and forthcoming ventures.
鈥業 have recently acted in an online video commercial for imo Bangladesh titled 鈥淓id-e Bari Phera鈥� directed by Riad Ahsan Rony. Besides, I have made a documentary film on theatre activist Ataur Rahman. I am also preparing to shoot two short films and working on the script of my feature film based on Shahidul Zahir鈥檚 novel Se Ratey Purnima Chilo,鈥� ended Sumon.
