
Bangladeshi short film titled ‘Hoite Surma’ is scheduled to have its debut at the 46th Moscow International Film Festival today, said a press release.
The film, which addresses nature and climate change, has been directed by Manoj Pramanik and Subrata Sarker. It is written by Manoj Pramanik.
Millad Hossen, Firoz Ahmed, Bijoy Das, Manju Talukdar and others played different characters in ‘Hoite Surma’.
The film was produced at an Eco Film Lab organised by International Academy of Film and Media in Sunamganj in 2023.
Bibesh Roy is the producer of the film, which has been coproduced by Manoj Pramanik, Christoph Thoke from Germany, Mohammed Al-Kindi from Oman, Asim Altokhais from Saudi Arabia and Harry Winer from the USA.
In the film, a biker delivers a package to a rural villager named Ripon. When he opens it, he is shocked to find that the package is filled with garbage he recognises as items he had discarded into the river Surma during his wedding celebration and the story moves forward.
The film’s shooting was completed in and around Shanir Haor of Tahirpur Upazila, near Tanguar Haor of Sunamganj.
The film was edited with the full cooperation of the editing department of the American Film Institute.
Bibesh Roy, Manoj Pramanik and Asim Altokhais are scheduled to attend the film festival in Moscow.
